Confession time: I am deathly afraid of public speaking. So much so that when I was approached recently to run a cupcake workshop for a corporate group of 20 women, my first thought was ‘No way!’ The more I thought about it, however, the more I felt I should reconsider. How often do I have the undivided attention of an audience who is genuinely interested in what I have to say about cupcakes? I decided to seize the opportunity. I would feel the fear and do it anyway!
My challenge was to create a cupcake workshop that would keep a group of adults interested for an hour and a half. I wanted my participants not only to have a fun time, but to also walk away with some new skills.
I designed the following workspace for each participant (the red ball is fondant):
We started with the most basic skill: how to pipe a cupcake. Along with the Classic Swirl, I featured the very trendy Rose, which is both incredibly easy and a showstopper!
The group learned how to make the appliqués below. Roses are very time consuming and there is definitely a learning curve, but my group was phenomenal!
I did not get to take any pictures during the actual workshop, but I was lucky enough to get my hands on some that were taken by others:

The workshop was a TON of fun, and I would do it again in a heartbeat! In addition to a very different and refreshing take on a corporate group activity, I would be happy to offer this workshop as a birthday party activity for children aged 11 and up.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!
